Weather and relief

It is located about 800 m. of altitude above the level of the sea, on the plateau of Requena - Utiel, which comprises of a great plain, limited by the mountain range of the Bicuerca at the southwest and by the mountain range of Utiel at the northeast . It is a large extension of land, where we found different types of lands: frank limestones, clay-limestones. All these lands are poor in organic material, which make them suitable for cultivating the grapevine.

The weather can be considered to be a mediterranian one mixtured up with some continental weather features due to its height and distance from the sea. The anual average temperature is around 14 Celsius degrees.
Winter is quite long and cold. There are frosts very frequently. The summer is relatively short: July and August, basically, with an extremelly hot at miday hour ( 40 Celsius degrees). At night temperatures drop in, dramatically.

On the one hand, this weather improves the grapes quality and on the other hand, an increase of polyphenols.

Regarding rainfalls, we have to admit that its main characteristis is the lack of it, that is to say, rainfalls are not very frequent, just 430 litres yearly. It is a dry climate, more obvious in the lastest years.
